June 13th: Final Renders and Models

Bluetooth Mouse Mimic - Process Sketching and Planning Projecting Each Side onto a Round Shape, Subtracting, Adding Final "Normal" Model Initial Prototype The first thing I did since finishing my model was to try out printing a small low-resolution version of it to see how the basic structure would come out without very many supports. I'm happy with the result and ready to print the modified version of the object as well soon. Modifying the Model Once I had my normal mouse model finished I began to modify it entirely. First I bent the cover piece open like a mouth. The details involved fleshy webbing at the corners of the mouth, gums and teeth, a ribbed texture on the uncovered parts of the mouse, and different text on the DPI button . Combining everything into a valid polysurface was another time killer, but eventually, I had two versions of the model: the normal mouse and the transformed "mimic" monster.  Final Modified Model and Renders Prusa Set-Up As of Jun...

June 6th: Initial Renders and Modification Progress

Some initial renders of my object while I work on preparing it for 3D printing. Changes may still be made to the model before the final print, so these are the initial tests.  The process so far for reverse engineering this object has had a lot of ups and downs. The modification I'd like to make to the object is still in progress, but I focused on having a solid replication to build on first, represented below. One of the more difficult aspects of this has been managing the surfaces that make up each piece of the object and trying to make them seamlessly combine. When I begin to print the object, I'll see if there are any more changes I need to make.  I may need to return for another technician appointment once I've gone ahead with my "modification" ideas. I've included images of the work in progress (essentially opening up the top of the mouse and adding teeth and flesh textures along the seams like a mouth) below the renders of the unmodified object. Addin...

June 4th: Reverse Engineering Object

Though I have finished the replication of my object, I didn't manage to find the time to make all the additions I wanted to and transform the object into a little monster. I realized that my concept was a little more ambitious than I had time for, especially when I took into account the time I'd be devoting to finding a suitable workflow. If I get a chance in the time between my appointments and actually printing my object, I want to attempt to develop it further, but this is why I decided to start with the basic replication and try to build on top of it later.  Here is the  link  to my presentation on my reverse engineering process. Below are renders of my object with a matching material as well as the photos of the original.
